At a virtual event held by progressive grassroots organization Indivisible, several prominent liberal voices, including members of Congress, expressed their support for reforming the Supreme Court, including placing term limits on the justices.
“I think we have to have term limits on the table,” Rep. Ro Khanna of California said. “The idea that people should be there for life […] runs counter to what we stand for.” (22:44)
Mondaire Jones, a congressional candidate in New York, said, “If the Supreme Court won’t let the democratic branches of government restore democracy, then we must be open to any and all proposals that would fix the court.” (56:45)
Added Indivisible founder Ezra Levin, “You can do term limits for Supreme Court justices [and] this is possible without a constitutional amendment.” (1:02:33)
