Eric Holder served six years as President Obama’s Attorney General, but he, like this Campaign, believes that Supreme Court justices should be limited to 18 years of service and that this could be achieved through congressional legislation.
Speaking at Pomona College over the weekend, Holder stated, “I don’t think someone should have that much power in an unelected position for that long,” adding, “I think that three senatorial terms, 18 years, would be enough for a justice.”
He reiterated his support later on Twitter, saying that the reform “will decrease the political pressure in confirmation” and that it “can be done by statute.”
Holder is himself formerly a judge of the D.C. Superior Court and is currently a partner at Covington & Burling.
